Hyo Kwon is an independent graphic designer currently based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together with her partner, Berton Hasebe, she co-founded and runs a digital type foundry and collaborative design studio HB Type.

Prior to moving to Hawaii, she was based in Queens, New York, where she ran her design studio and taught as an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design. She has given talks at AIGA and Parsons School of Design, and has been a guest lecturer/critic at the Cooper Union, Pratt Institute, University of the Arts Philadelphia, and Yale University. Besides teaching and running her studio, she also worked as a freelancer/external art director at 2×4, Base Design (NY), New York Times—T Magazine, Studio Veronica Ditting and Wkshps.

She holds a masters degree from Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem, and BFA from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK). Her work has been recognicsed by the BRNO Graphic Design Competition, D&AD, and the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO). Her recent clients include: Anyang Public Art Project (APAP), Dia Art Foundation, Renaissance Society, EFA Project Space, Jeamin Cha, Kunstverein Amsterdam & NY, Kunsthaus Bregenz, MAD Museum of Art and Design, MAXXI Rome, MoMA PS1, Seoul Museum of Art, and Yale School of Architecture.
